Jen Carmean: Tattoo artist and owner of
Monarch Tattoo (Great dane rescuer).

I started in a street shop just off the Las Vegas strip, in a mall that had a bailbondsman and a methadone clinic. Tattooing wasn't cool yet, and we worked with guns on the counters a lot of the time...but I got to meet some really great people, and it was as fun as it was crazy. Creeper worked there 4 days a week, so I learned mostly from him(something I am eternal greatful for) I came back to Jersey and worked for Shotsie for eight years until I convinced him to sell me his smaller "West" shop location. It's in the middle of the only undeveloped area of New Jersey, but it's been home since 1996, and it's cool to see the bears when you take out the garbage. I fixed it up, and put some tlc into it, and now it's really nice. I work with John Bergin III. Everyone has 15 years+ as tattooers. We have a new front guy named Justin Devoe, (Justin has veins on his abs gals!!!) who can hook you up with one of us, or help you find what you are looking for.
I work by appointment only.
Tuesday- Friday 12PM - 9PM
Saturday 10AM - 2PM

John Bergin III: Tattoo artist (webmaster computer guy and friend of all dogs).

I've been tattooing since 1988. Love to do a variety of work. 95% of the work I do is custom no repeat stuff. I don't want to get locked into any one thing but I do tend to favor wildlife, japanese and bio-mechanical. Did I tell you I love to do skulls too?
Started part time in Jersey and moved to California in 1989 for 5 1/2 years. Moved back here where the economy is much more stable for tattooing. I've been working with Jen Carmean at the same location in Newfoundland NJ (formerly known as Shotsies tattoo west) since it opened in 96.
My hours: Wed - Sat 11:30AM - 8:30PM
and Sunday 11:30AM - 4PM

When not teaching at Central High School in Newark New Jersey, I can usually be found cleaning tubes, making appointments, and taking some of the stress away from the artists at the shop. I have been handling business here at Monarch for two years now and it has been a great way to cap off my usual 16 hour work day. When the artists are busy (which is all the time) you will usually talk to me first to set up appointments or consultations. Come in and make yourself at home! See ya soon!
